If you were ever here back in 2020, you might remember this space as a digital diary for a ‘Born-Again Housewife’ navigating a very quiet, locked-down world with two perpetually hungry and bored Teens.
A lot has changed since the last time I hit ‘Publish.’
The house has grown a lot quieter. The Teens are no longer teens but ‘fledglings’ who have officially left the nest—one is busy learning nerdy stuff 200 miles away, and the other is working across the sea, stretching my motherhood radius to a cool 500 miles.
I’ve traded the school run for motorway miles and I’m now well into wearing out my second pair of running shoes, though my running pace is still best described as ‘leisurely.’ A new acquisition sits on the drive in the form of a campervan, known as the Silver Toaster, leading to a whole new way of spending leisure time. Time, glorious free time, me time, us time that we had forgotten ever existed since the children came along.
I will be sharing the challenges of long-distance parenting and how I am coping with the change in my job titles from Family Satnav to anxious Race Watcher and occasional Life Coach. Or not coping, since there is no magic formula to untangling the emotions we feel about any life transition. There may even be occasional forays into campervan life as husband and I relearn how to live life as a couple and doing our own thing again!
I’m currently under the bonnet of this site, swapping out the old 2020 engine for something that fits my life in 2026. I’ll be turning the ignition key very soon….
